Course Outline

This comprehensive training program covers a wide range of topics related to stormwater management and the use of SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) software. The course is designed to provide participants with a solid understanding of SWMM and its application in simulating and analyzing stormwater drainage systems. The course content is organized into 16 sections with a total of 66 lectures, covering the following topics

  • Exploring the process of downloading relevant data for SWAT modeling.

  • Adjusting specific settings on your computer to optimize the performance of the software.

  • Configuring the soil settings to ensure accurate soil representation in the model.

  • Setting up climate data specific to India using a weather generator.

  • Configuring climate data for locations outside of India using a weather generator.

  • Downloading and accessing the ASTER v3 Multipal DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data.

  • Combining multiple DEMs to create a mosaic for a comprehensive representation of the study area.

  • Identifying the appropriate UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) zone and re-projecting the DEM for accurate analysis.

  • Trimming the DEM to the desired study area boundary for focused analysis.

  • Preparing the land use data in the required text file format for input into the model.

  • Obtaining the shapefile data for the study area country.

  • Downloading and processing the official map shapefile specific to India.

  • Preparing the soil data for the study area country.

  • Downloading and utilizing the global soil link file for comprehensive soil data.

  • Understanding the structure and organization of the data used in SWAT modeling.

  • Selecting and downloading the necessary base data file for the study area.

Throughout the course, participants will gain an introduction to stormwater management and SWMM software. They will learn about the various components of a drainage system, including subcatchments, nodes, and conduits. The course covers the process of creating and configuring study areas and projects in SWMM, setting up properties and parameters for accurate simulations, configuring rainfall input and gage settings, and analyzing simulation results. Participants will also learn how to visualize and interpret simulation results using graphs and maps. The course includes guidance on utilizing SWMM's advanced features for modeling complex scenarios and best practices for effective stormwater management.
